International students who want to study a higher degree by research at a Master’s or PhD level can also apply for the La Trobe University Postgraduate Research Scholarships (LTUPRS).

The La Trobe University Postgraduate Research Scholarships are valued at A$19,231 per annum for full-time study and is designed to assist with cost of living (cannot be used to pay tuition fees).

The closing date for these scholarships is 30 September for students who wish to begin their studies the following year.

Scholarship recipients must be ready to commence no later than 30 June in the year after application. Please note also that scholarship offers will be made conditional on evidence of English language proficiency.

International students may apply for this scholarship when they apply for admission to La Trobe University. Academic Excellence Scholarships (AES)

La Trobe’s Academic Excellence Scholarships are targeted towards high achieving international students from all countries across all of La Trobe’s undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs. The awards are for newly commencing students only, and are non-renewable lump sums awarded across a maximum period of two semesters (or twelve months).

The AES Awards are open to international students proposing to undertake undergraduate and coursework full degrees at La Trobe (noting that Higher Degree Research, Exchange, Study Abroad, ELICOS and Foundation Studies and Diploma students are ineligible).

Selection is based primarily on academic excellence, and applicants will need to have scored a minimum of 75% or equivalent in their previous degree/award to be competitive.

In addition to completing a Scholarship Application Form, students must have also submitted an application for admission, and have received an offer from La Trobe prior to the scholarship deadline.

Who we are looking for
Applicants must have an excellent academic background. Due to the level of competition for these scholarships, only applicants with a 1st class bachelors degree will be considered.

Applicants must also demonstrate excellence in an area of their life. This might be outstanding academic achievement, exceptional achievement in extra curricular activities (such as sport, music, managing events or societies) or significant achievement gained either in their working life or through volunteering and service to others.

Applicants must also outline the contribution they will make to the University of Birmingham as a student and what they expect to gain from studying here.

Scholarship value/inclusions:
• Airfare: A round-trip economy class ticket
• Monthly Allowance: 900,000 won(KRW) per month
• Research Allowance: 210,000 won for students in human and social sciences; 240,000 won for students in natural and mechanic sciences per semester
• Relocation (Settlement) Allowance: 200,000 won upon arrival
• Language Training Fee : The full costs up to 1 year
• Tuition: All admission fees are waived by the host institution. The full tuition is paid by NIIED.

Application instructions:

Applicants can apply for the scholarships through the Korean Embassy in their home country or a participating Korean University.

The selection process for applicants will proceed in three steps:

Firstly, applicants must be selectedby the institution he or she is applying through (a Korean embassy, or a designated university).

Secondly, applicants who passed the first round must be selected by the NIIED Selection Committee.

Finally, applicants who passed the second round must gain admission from a university.

The application deadline is 31 March 2012.

Undergraduate Scholarships at Lingnan University, HK

Lingnan University offers scholarships to support outstanding non-local students to pursue full-time undergraduate studies at our University. Full Scholarship (covering tuition, hostel and other academic and living expenses), Tuition Scholarship or Half-tuition Scholarship per academic year will be awarded to successful applicants.

Each Scholarship is offered on an annual renewable basis and is tenable for a period of up to 3 or 4 years (depending on the curriculum), subject to continued outstanding academic performance.

Eligibility

Applicants are not required to indicate which curriculum (3-year or 4-year) they are applying. They will be considered and suitably admitted to the appropriate curriculum according to their education background and qualifications.

Non-local applicants (other than Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland citizens) should have attained at a recognised post-secondary institution outside Hong Kong an equivalent qualification to the Admission Requirements of the University, as stipulated below:

• a degree, a sub-degree or a diploma awarded by a recognised post-secondary institution;

• an International Baccalaureate Diploma;

PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Masters degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of the Faculty of Engineering and Science, in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 18 of January 14, 2008 on the PhD Programme at the Universities. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed every six months. It is a prerequisite for continuation of salary payment that the previous progress is approved at the time of the evaluation.

The qualifications of the applicant will be assessed by an assessment committee. On the basis of the recommendation of the assessment committee, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Science will make a decision for allocating the stipend.

Hungary through the Balassi Institute, the Hungarian Scholarship Board Office offers scholarships for foreign students and lecturers in higher education institutions as well as research fellows who intend to gain further professional experience in Hungarian higher education institutions or research institutes. Scholarships can be applied for in two different ways:

Work plans and bilateral agreementsThe Office of the Hungarian Scholarship Board (hereinafter HSB) welcomes applications by citizens of countries (and territories) that have a valid/effective educational work plan with Hungary, or a bilateral agreement signed by the Hungarian Ministry of National Recourses and the relevant ministry of the given country (or territory). Dissemination of all information regarding the application procedure and deadlines as well as assessment and shortlisting of applications is conducted by the scholarship authority or the Ministry of Education in the relevant home country (or territory). Applications forwarded by partner scholarship offices shall have a priority. However, applications submitted directly to the HSB Office shall also be accepted in the framework of the Pool system outlined below.
Scholarship PoolIn 2005 the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Hungary established the ‘Scholarship Pool’ allowing for applications for all HSB scholarship types from the following countries/territories:

Available scholarships
The following scholarships are available in the academic year 2012-2013:

A – semester/partial studies (3-10 months)
Available for: undergraduate (BA/BSc) and graduate (MA/MSc) students (enrolled at foreign higher education institutions), especially those majoring in Hungarian Language and Literature and students participating in a single degree track university programme (such as General Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmaceutical Studies, Veterinary Studies, Architecture, Studies in Law, etc.). Before application, students are required to have completed minimum two semesters at their home institutions. For ‘Type A’ scholarship students may apply only on one occasion during their Bachelor’s studies, and once during their Master’s studies.

B – postgraduate studies, research (3-21 days or 1-10 months)
Available for: applicants holding a Master’s degree or an equivalent university degree, including PhD students who intend to do research for their dissertation and wish to stay in Hungary for less than 10 months. (However, PhD students cannot earn credits during the scholarship period at the host university.)

C/1 – full PhD programme (36 months)
Only students proficient in Hungarian can apply. The scholarship is conditional upon successful entrance exam / admission to the respective doctoral school.

C/2 – partial PhD studies (10 months)
Applicants must be enrolled in a PhD programme at an accredited higher education institution in their home country or in a foreign country (but not in Hungary).

D – postdoctoral studies, research (1-10 months)
Applicants must hold a PhD or an equivalent degree.

E – research stay (3-21 days or 1-10 months)
Available for associate professors or high-ranking academics as well as researchers holding minimum a PhD or an equivalent degree.

F – summer courses in the summer of 2012 (2-4 weeks)
Only courses published in the list of ‘Summer Courses 2012’ on the HSB website can be selected. You may select three different courses but your scholarship will allow you to participate only in one course.

CASES OF NON-ELIGIBILITY

Foreign citizens with a residence/immigration permit or in the course of applying for such a permit in Hungary
Foreign citizens with permanent residence in Hungary
Foreign citizens employed on a permanent basis as defined by the Hungarian Labour Law
Students in employment applying for part-time or correspondence study programmes
Students applying for programmes not financed by the Hungarian State
Students admitted to higher education host institutions where tuition fee is required.

GENERAL PROVISIONS
Scholarships offered by the HSB allow for studies or research in any field of arts or sciences at an accredited Hungarian higher education institution or research institute to be determined in advance.

Semester/partial and postgraduate studies as well as doctoral programmes must be carried out in higher education institutions or research institutes where no tuition fee is required.

For ’type A scholarship’ students may apply only on one occasion in the course of their Bachelor’s studies, and once during their Master’s studies. Type A (semester/partial studies) and type C1/C2 (full PhD and partial PhD studies) scholarships cannot be extended. Type B (postgraduate studies), D (postdoctoral studies, research), and E (research stay) scholarships may be extended exceptionally, only under special circumstances, on one occasion.

HSB scholarships are valid only for studies and research purposes in Hungary. Scholarship-holders must stay in Hungary during the entire period of their studies or research.

Scholarships are awarded for the summer of 2012 or the academic year 2012-2013 and must be completed by 30 June 2013 at the latest.

A list of the national scholarship authorities (‘Foreign Partners’), the list of summer university courses as well as other useful information can be found on the HSB website (www.scholarship.hu). Scholarships are awarded by the Hungarian Minister of National Resources based on the decisions of the Hungarian Scholarship Board. The list of successful applicants for scholarship types A to E is expected to be published on the HSB website by the end of June 2012 and for the summer university courses by the beginning of June 2012. Applicants will be informed of the result in an official letter posted or sent via e-mail. The HSB office shall not accept appeals against the decision.

Criteria for Eligibility
Applicants must have completed the equivalent of an Australian Bachelor degree qualification with a minimum high distinction average as based on the Australian grading system. Students who have already commenced postgraduate studies, or students transferring from other postgraduate programs are not eligible.

Application Procedure
No separate application for a scholarship is necessary. An Application for Admission to the University of Sydney in 2012 will constitute an application for a scholarship. All applications meeting the selection and eligibility criteria will be automatically considered.

The deadline for receipt of applications and complete supporting documentation (academic and English language proficiency results) is 31 October 2011 for Semester 1, 2012, and 30 April 2012 (for Semester 2, 2012). Applications received after these deadlines will not be considered.

Selection Criteria
Selection will be based strictly on academic merit as per the University’s admission requirements. Selection will be based on actual results (academic and English language proficiency). Predicted/forecast results will not be considered.

Only applicants with firm, unconditional offers of admission will be considered.

Selection will be made by the University’s Scholarship Selection Committee, whose decision will be final. No appeals will be entertained.

Successful candidates will be informed in December 2011 (Semester 1, 2012) and June 2012 (Semester 2. 2012). Successful candidates applying through UAC will be informed in January 2012.

Conditions
Undergraduate scholarship recipients will need to maintain satisfactory academic progress, which, for the purposes of retaining the scholarship, is defined as maintaining a credit average (at least 65%) or more each year. Failure to do so may result in the scholarship being terminated.

Successful candidates:

must not be in receipt of any other tuition scholarship;
must commence study in 2012 – commencement may not be deferred;
will be required to pay for their own airfares to Sydney, living expenses, study materials, text books, any ancillary fees (if applicable) and Overseas Student Health Cover each year;
are also responsible for paying the balance of the tuition fees each year;
are required to enrol as full-time international students and must maintain their international student status on a full-time basis throughout their enrolment at the University of Sydney; and
may not be entitled to a ‘Leave of Absence’ during the duration of the scholarship, unless it is due to extenuating circumstances.

The University of Sydney reserves the right to make changes to this scholarships program without notice and at its discretion.

Those who are selected as KGSP graduate students.
Individuals whose parents both hold foreign nationality and Korean nationals residing abroad or foreign nationals who completed the entire course of education equivalent to the elementary and secondary educations and tertiary education of Korea abroad.
Those who satisfy both 1) and 2), and have obtained Level 3 or above in the TOPIK(Test of Proficiency in Korean).

Notice

Application form and personal statement and study plan should be filled out in Korean or English.
Documents that are not in Korean or English must be submitted with a notarized Korean or English translation.
Admitted students should submit Apostille certificates or verified documents from Korean consulate for their school certificates (transcripts, diplomas, etc.) to the Office of International Affairs at PNU before the beginning of the school.

Tampere University of Technology (TUT) invests in doctoral education. The doctoral programme of the President of the University that covers all the discplines represented at the University has 55 positions available for doctoral students. The University is now seeking to fill the following positions in the field of architecture and different branches of engineering (see http://www.tut.fi/en/units)

The positions will be filled for a fixed-term period of three years from 1 September 2012 onwards. During this time, the researchers will undertake full-time study toward a doctoral degree. The researchers will also perform teaching duties in their own fields as part of their doctoral education.

The salary will be based both on the job demands and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the University Salary System. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of a researcher is placed on the job demand levels 1-4. In addition, employees receive performance-based salary. The researchers will serve a trial period of four months.

The successful candidates must be eligible for studies leading to a scientific or artistic postgraduate degree as set forth in the Universities Act (558/2009 37§). The requisite degree must be completed on June 2012 at the latest. Candidates do not have to hold official postgraduate student status at TUT when submitting the application.

The candidate must also meet the following requirements to be considered for the position:

- If the candidate has completed both a bachelor's and a master's degree, the total duration of one's studies toward both degrees may not exceed 12 semesters/6 academic years. If the candidate has only completed a master's degree at the University (and hold either a foreign degree or a Bachelor in Engineering degree from a Finnish university of applied sciences), the total duration of one's studies may not exceed 6 semesters/3 academic years. Semesters when the candidate was registered as absent are not counted toward the duration of studies;

- The candidate must have completed one's master's degree with the weighted grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 1-5 scale (or equivalent) and;

Master and PhD Scholarships from Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST)

Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) offers programs leading to M.S., Ph.D. and integrated M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Students are expected to maintain full-time student status and continuous registration until completion of all requirements. It normally takes two years to finish an M.S. program and four years for a Ph.D. program. For a Master’s degree, students take a maximum of three years to complete their degree. For integrated M.S. and Ph.D. program, students have a maximum of eight years to complete their degree. Ph.D. students have a maximum of seven years to complete their degree.

Full-tuition Scholarship
All GIST students are awarded full-tuition scholarship for two years of M.S. program and for four years of Ph.D. program.

Monthly Stipends
All GIST students receive stipends throughout two years for M.S. program, and four years for Ph.D. program. Students are required to maintain full-time status. M.S. students receive monthly stipends of 220,000 won and 250,000 won for Ph.D. students. International students with GPA 3.0 or above may be given an additional 120,000 won as an international student support stipend.

Free Dormitory Housing
GIST provides all students with on-campus dormitory housing free of charge, monthly utility fees of 30,000 won will be deducted from your monthly stipends. GIST also has apartments for married students which charge a resident for rent and utilities.

Experiment Costs
For M.S. students, up to 229,900 won per year may be reimbursed of the amount incurred for research experiments, and up to 270,600 won per year for Ph.D. students, with the approval of their academic advisor.

Thesis / Dissertation Research Expenses
Expenses associated with a student’s research for the M.S. thesis may be reimbursed up to 511,000 won per year, and 901,250 won per year for the doctoral dissertation, with the approval of their academic advisor.

Research Assistantships
Research assistantships are available for qualified students working on funded projects. Students who are granted assistantships well be paid according to their work hours and degree of participation in the project.

Medical Insurance Fees
For international students, 60% of the Korean National Health Insurance fee is supported by GIST. For students receiving Korean Government IT scholarships, however, 30% of the Korean National Health Insurance fee is supported by GIST.

Application Deadlines
The application deadline for the fall admission is April 15 and for spring admission, October 15. Late applications will be considered for the subsequent semester. In order to be considered for admission, official English test results should reach us before the deadline. English scores more than two years old are not accepted.

Do I need to submit a TOEFL score?
Because English is the medium of instruction at GIST and success in graduate study depends on English language competency, official English test results must be presented by applicants who are not native born citizens of Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK and the USA as part of their applications.

Applicants holding bachelors or advanced degrees from accredited institutions in one of the countries listed above may be exempted from English requirements with prior approval of GIST.

English Requirements
In general, the minimum score for acceptance into our graduate programs is 550 of PBT, 213 of CBT or 80 of iBT. We also accept the score of IELTS, TOEIC and TEPS when the applicant doesn’t have TOEFL score. The minimum score for acceptance is 6.5 of IELTS, 750 of TOEIC and 680 of TEPS.

Conditional Admission
Applicants from countries that do not offer official English tests (TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC or TEPS) or other applicants for whom it is not possible to take such tests owing to unavoidable circumstances (including schedule conflicts or excessive economic burden not including the exam fees) may be permitted to apply for admission to the Institute and may be given conditional admission. Conditional admission requires one or more of the following criteria:

If the applicant submits documentation related to English proficiency issued by the President and Dean of the last school attended.
If the applicant passes an English proficiency evaluation in a face to face interview administered by an English lecturer from the Institute, or a selection committee member during an academic event held by the Institute such as overseas symposiums.

Students admitted to GIST with conditional admission must, within 6 months from the date of admission, submit official English test results that meet the application criteria of the Institute. We strongly recommend that you obtain a recommended English test score because Korea Immigration Service may require an English or Korean Test score for VISA application.

The Centre for Ecology and Conservation is pleased to offer an annual fees-only scholarship to one student from each of Africa, Asia and Latin America.

These are highly competitive awards: students must demonstrate an extremely high academic standard and must show prior commitment to the field of biodiversity conservation. Evidence must be produced as to means of self support during the one year period of study.

Rules & Regulations

The 2012 Women in Games Scholarship applies only to the Game Design program at VFS and cannot be applied to any other VFS program.
Applicants who have already been accepted into a VFS program can apply for this scholarship; however, this scholarship must be used singularly and cannot be used in combination with any other bursary or scholarship already received. Previous applicants must re-submit their application with a completed scholarship application form.
Applicants must be female and must be at least 19 years old or have graduated from high school.
Employees and contractors of Vancouver Film School, scholarship partners, and members of the VFS scholarship selection committee and their spouses or immediate family members are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Applications must include the following:
A completed application form.

Make references to other games to explain how you would make your game. In addition, provide a one-page (maximum) outline detailing your story, possible levels, and characters. Provide 1-2 pages (maximum) of diagrams explaining any features or game mechanics and a simplified map of the game world described in your synopsis.

Explain why you believe you can be successful in the industry and your plan on achieving success if you receive the scholarship.
Acceptable proof of your proficiency in English (if English is not your native language), which can include any of the following:
TOEFL score of 520 (190 Computer-Based Test)
TOEIC score of 700
IELTS Band 5.5
LPI Level 4
Cambridge Advanced English
Transcripts from an English-speaking high school or an accredited English-speaking post-secondary institution
Any materials supplied with the application will not be returned.
Scholarships will be awarded based on the applicant’s talent, creativity, discipline, and focus, as well as the selection criteria outlined for this scholarship, and the applicant must meet all admissions requirements. The judging committee will consist of faculty and representatives from VFS, as well as scholarship providers. The decision of the judging committee is final.
This scholarships covers the costs for your tuition and specific program supplies. The scholarship recipient is responsible for all additional costs necessary to complete the program of study (including housing, transportation, food, and incidentals). If the winner cannot commit to attending VFS for any reason within two weeks of being notified that he or she has been selected to receive a scholarship, another scholarship winner will be chosen.
Applicants must be able to attend VFS by no later than June 25, 2012.
Applications will be accepted until 16:30 PST March 31, 2012. Any application that has not arrived at the above-noted VFS address will not be eligible. All applications will be reviewed and the winner will be announced on or around April 17, 2012.
The winning recipient may be required to maintain a blog that captures and illustrates her experience in attending the VFS Game Design program. All setup and hosting costs will be covered by VFS.
VFS reserves the right to cancel this scholarship initiative at any time, at its sole discretion, in the event of any administrative conflict or error. VFS reserves the right to modify the rules of this scholarship in any way or at any time as long as reasonable notice is given. This program is void where prohibited by law and is subject to all applicable federal, provincial, state, and local laws and regulations.
