The International Student Scholarships are a testament to Bond University’s commitment to quality and outstanding international students. These scholarships are available to international students who have demonstrated outstanding academic ability (academic merit based scholarships).

Value
25% to 50% of tuition fees of any undergraduate or postgraduate degree (excluding Bond University’s Medical Program, Master of Psychology, Doctor of Physiotherapy)

Eligibility

Available for international students only, for undergraduate or postgraduate study.
Applicants must currently be or have previously been in the top 5% of their high school or university class.
Students will be selected for scholarships based on outstanding academic ability. In addition, demonstrated strong leadership skills and extensive involvement in extracurricular activities will also be considered.
Students whose first language is not English must refer to and meet Bond University’s standard. English entry requirements for undergraduate applicants.

Application Submission
All international students who have made an application to study at Bond University (by the scholarship closing date for each semester) will be considered for an International Student Scholarship.

It is recommended that when students complete a Bond University Application Form, they submit a personal statement (outlining why you should be awarded a Bond scholarship), references, resume and certified copies of other relevant documentation to assist in supporting your application.

As part of the selection process, all shortlisted applicants will be required to participate in a telephone interview.

Selections for each intake of scholarship students are assessed based on academic merit. Should your submission not be successful at the time of application, your details will be reassessed for future semester intakes up until the point of acceptance.

Please note: Only short-listed applicants will be contacted for an interview. If you are not contacted for an interview by the dates stated in the general information above, then you can assume you have been unsuccessful in your application. Students will not be notified of their unsuccessful application in writing.

The University has a long tradition of welcoming international students from around the world and is pleased to be able to offer a number of scholarships for entry at taught masters level.

The scholarships will be worth £5000 (for one year of study) towards the cost of tuition fees and are offered to nationals of any country paying international fees.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants for postgraduate taught study at the University of Kent may ask to be considered for one of the University’s International Scholarships.
In order to be eligible for consideration for a scholarship, all of the conditions 1 to 3 below must have been satisfied:
an application must have been made for a degree course at the University of Kent.
the applicant must have received an unconditional offer of a place on such a degree course.
the University must have received confirmation of the applicant’s acceptance of the offer.




HOW TO APPLY – POSTGRADUATE
At the point of application for the scholarship, you are asked to submit an original essay of between 750 to 1,000 words on the topic: “Why have you chosen your selected postgraduate taught degree programme; why have you applied to the University of Kent; and how do you see your degree at Kent preparing you for your life after graduation“.

In an increasingly integrated global economy, managing the complexities of mineral resources investment and development provides challenges for host governments, international institutions, companies, investors and all stakeholders participating in the sector.

The Centre for Energy, Petroleum, Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) offers an LLM in Mineral Law and Policy, which provides with the required interdisciplinary knowledge and skills to deal with the current legal, policy and economic issues and challenges in mineral resources investment and development. CEPMLP’s interdisciplinary nature and perspectives in international and comparative law and the success of its emphasis on a theoretical and practical approach to learning make it one of the premier organisations of its kind worldwide.

 Rio Tinto plc, together with CEPMLP, acknowledging the importance of contributing worldwide to sustainable mineral resources development, are offering as part of their partnership’s activities up to a maximum of 6 fully funded postgraduate scholarships leading to the degree:

Master of Laws (LLM) in Mineral Law and Policy
The award will offer the successful candidate:

Payment of academic tuition fees
12 monthly stipends for living expenses for a single student
An arrival allowance and thesis/assignment allowance
Applicants eligible for consideration should:

Already hold a degree of an equivalent standard to at least a good UK upper second class honours degree or higher
Be able to demonstrate a high level of English language competence (minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, with no component less than 6.0)
Display intellectual ability and leadership potential
Have a proven track record and potential to rise to positions of influence
Preferably be qualified lawyers having had some post-degree work experience in mining in the government, private sector, or academia
Be a national and resident of the following countries at the time of applying for the award: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Ghana, Guinea, India, Indonesia, Madagascar, Mexico, Mongolia, Mozambique, Namibia, Peru, Russia, South Africa and Zimbabwe
Complete the degree within 12 months and return to their home country at the end of their period of study
Employees, employee’s relatives (or former employees who have left employment less than 5 years before) the British Council, Rio Tinto plc and the University of Dundee will not be eligible to apply for these awards.

Method of Scholarship Selection
Please note that there is no separate application form for the Rio Tinto plc Scholarship.

Candidates who are offered unconditional admission to the fullt-ime LLM in Mineral Law and Policy programme should provide a 250-word Personal Statement, preferably attached to their UKPASS application, or sent under separate cover, by email attachment to Kathleen Shortt: k.a.shortt@dundee.ac.uk.

It is important to demonstrate in your Personal Statement that you are motivated to make a career that will take you to a position of leadership in your own country within 10 years of your Scholarship. You must be committed to networking to find global solutions and you should be able to use your studies and experience gained in the UK to benefit yourself, your country and the UK. You should become a first-class ambassador for the UK in your home country. Your Personal Statement should emphasise the following points:

Your ability to make a difference in the world, illustrated by your leadership qualities
Your skills in communications and the ability to influence people and decisions
Your networking ability, ambition and plans for the future
Your academic background and potential on the LLM degree programme, your strength of character and integrity
Your outside interests – ie hobbies and activities

Eligibility requirements

Candidates must:
  • Be a female student enrolled in a Bachelors, Masters or PhD programme (or equivalent) in 2013/2014.
  • Be enrolled at a University in Europe, the Middle East, or Africa. Citizens, permanent residents, and international students are eligible to apply.
  • Be studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Informatics, or a closely related technical field.
  • Maintain an excellent academic record (e.g. a First Class Honours degree).

How to apply

The scholarship for 2013 is now open. The closing deadline will be 1 February 2013.

Please complete the online application and submit all requested documents by 1st February 2013. All application documents must be in English. Scholars and Finalists will be notified in April 2013.
You will be required to submit the following:
  • Up-to-date copy of your CV
  • Answers to the following questions (Suggested word count is 400-600 words per question. You should treat question 1 and 3 as technical reports or research papers):
    • Describe a significant technical project you have worked on. If you have worked on a major independent research project (such as research for a Master’s or PhD programme), please describe that work here. Give an overview of the problem and your approaches to the key technical challenges. If this was a group effort, be sure to specify your individual role and contributions.
    • Give one or two examples of your leadership abilities. Explain how you were influential and what you were trying to achieve. These need not be demonstrated through formal or traditional leadership roles. Feel free to think broadly and examine the many ways you impact members of your technical community.
    • Suppose someone gave you the funding and resources for a 3- to 12-month project to investigate a technical topic of your choice. Write a short version of a proposal, including a description of the project, your planned methodology, and your expected results. Please pick something other than the project you described for the first question.
  • Transcripts
    • Bachelors: A copy of your current academic record.
    • Masters: A copy of your previous and current academic records.
    • Phd: A copy of your previous academic records.
  • Enrollment confirmation for 2013/2014 or confirmation of graduation date
    • Please include with your application an official enrollment confirmation or a confirmation of your graduation date issued by an official authority of the university e.g. your departmental administrator or a professor.
