A total of eight PhD student positions are available within the Vienna Doctoral Programme on water resource systems. We welcome the application of graduates with a keen interest in one of the following fields:

Hydrology
Hydrogeology
Aquatic microbiology
Water quality
Resource management
Remote sensing
Mechanics of structures
Risk assessment

Benefits

Full financial support on a 12 month basis is available for 3 to 4 years, depending on progress
An annual gross salary of Euro 24749
A one semester exchange programme at an international partner university
Re-imbursement of travel expenses related to conferences, training activities and field work
A comprehensive service programme of the TU Wien including health and dental insurance, and retirement programme

Qualifications

Formal entry requirements are a Master's degree (or equivalent) in a discipline related to Water Resource Systems, e.g., civil engineering, environmental engineering, chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, molecular biotechnology, process engineering, geodesy, hydrology, geology, spatial planning, geography, environmental management, economics and material sciences. Experience in water related research is beneficial, but not required. Excellent command of English in speaking, reading and writing is essential as English will be the working language of the programme. This Doctoral Programme is ambitious, so we seek resourceful, highly motivated students who are comfortable with working in a stimulating and competitive working environment.

Application deadline is May 15, 2009. Short listed candidates will be invited to a selection seminar. Financial support towards travel expenses is available on request.
