New distance learning French/English postgraduate certificate in 'Humanitarianism and Conflict

12.12.08 |

Oxford Brookes University and Université de Paris XII Val de Marne are interested in providing a new Postgraduate Certificate award in 'Humanitarianism and Conflict' which would be studied by Distance Learning. The new Postgraduate certificate aims to link applied practice with theory through sharing experience, discussion with key practitioners, critical reflections on experience and conceptual learning to practitioners from all parts of the world.
It will be based on the conceptual knowledge and experiences represented in the French and English humanitarian practices and understandings. The new award would be a dual award which would mean that the Postgraduate Certificate would be delivered jointly by both partners and that each student will receive an award from Oxford Brookes University and from Université de Paris XII Val de Marne. To take the programme you would need to have an active knowledge of either French or English and a passive knowledge of the other.
We would like to be sure that the proposed programme meets the needs of potential students and find out the level of interest in such a course. We would therefore appreciate if you could spare a few minutes to fill in this short questionnaire, which can be found at:

Kingston University
PhD studentship
Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture

The Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture invites applications from outstanding postgraduate students for an AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Award starting in March 2009. The award is for a three-year full-time studentship, and is equivalent in value to a standard AHRC Doctoral Award.

Partner organisation: The Geffrye Museum

Project: Approaches to documenting the homes of the London middle classes in the 21st Century

The aim of this project is to examine domestic interiors from the standpoint of the householder/occupants, exploring the meanings and values placed on domestic spaces. The research will seek to understand the social, cultural and aesthetic contexts, which influence choice and taste

It is anticipated that the project would suit well-qualified postgraduates from the arts, humanities or social sciences, who are looking to research the visual and material contexts of contemporary family life, domesticity and home-making. The project sits across the fields addressed by the Design Research Centre and the Modern Interiors Research Centre in the Faculty, and the Geffrye Museum. It will involve developing research methodologies for this subject area and gathering material such as recorded interviews of householders and images of their homes, which will form part of the Geffrye Museum's archive collections.

Applications deadline Wednesday 14 January 2009. Interviews will be held in February.
