The Australian and Pacific Science Foundation- Research Grants

Introduction: The Australian and Pacific Science Foundation funds a
variety of projects aimed at the promotion, advancement and study of
biological science in all its branches within the south west Pacific,
managed by Australian institutions or other entities within those
countries. In seeking to achieve its aims, The Australia & Pacific
Science Foundation provides support, on a competitive basis, for the
following activities:

Ø The top priority is to encourage high quality research by
scientists in Australian national or state institutions, and similar
institutions in other countries of the South West Pacific.

Ø Occasional support may also be given to such activities as
training, publications or conferences.

Amount Awarded: $15,000 per year for up to three years.

Indirect Cost Recovery: This scheme is exempt from University of
Sydney indirect costs.

EU-funded scholarships available for regional Asia nationals
The Erasmus Mundus External Window programme for Regional Asia, called
'EMMA', provides funding opportunities for students, researchers and
academic staff to take part in 'mobilities' between the target group
countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India,
Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar/Burma, Nepal, North Korea,
Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand) and the EU.
In general, the programme offers study scholarships for
above-mentioned nationals to attend courses, at Bachelor and Master
level, pursue PhDs, Post Doctoral research and to facilitate academic
staff exchange.
The project consortium comprises a set of partners in Regional Asia
and within the European Union -- of which the International Institute
for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC, The

ADB - Japan Scholarship Program, Department of Economics NUS National University of Singapore

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) - Japan Scholarship Program (JSP) was established in April 1988 with financing from the Government of Japan. It aims to provide an opportunity for well-qualified citizens of ADB's developing member countries to pursue postgraduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions in the Asian and Pacific Region. The ADB-JSP enrolls about 300 students annually in 20 academic institutions located in 10 countries within the Region.

Department of Economics, National University of Singapore is one of institution participating in this ADB-JSP scholarship program.

SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION

The ADB-JSP provides full scholarships for one to two years.

* full tuition fees
* a monthly subsistence and housing allowance
* an allowance for books and instructional materials
* medical insurance
* travel expenses

The scholarship is for one year with an extension to the second year of study, as appropriate, which shall be conditional on the scholar maintaining a satisfactory level of performance as determined by the institute. The maximum duration of scholarship award is two years for masters and doctorate programs.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

* A national of an ADB borrowing member country (applicants from countries that are no longer borrowing from ADB are not eligible for the ADB-JSP Scholarship).
* Gained admission to an approved post graduate course in any of the participating academic institutions. (Department of Economics, National University of Singapore)
* A bachelor's degree or its equivalent with superior academic record.
* At least two (2) years of full-time professional working experience
* Proficiency in oral and written English communication skills to be able to pursue studies.
* Not more than 35 years old at the time of application.
* In good health.
* Should agree to return to his/her home county after completion of studies under the Program.
* Staff of participating academic institutions are not eligible for the Scholarship.
* Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management and staff of ADB, consultants, and relatives of the aforementioned are not eligible for the Scholarship.
* Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management and staff of the other international organizations are not eligible for the Scholarship.
* Applicants living or working in a country other than his/her home country are not eligible for the Scholarship.

Upon completion of their study programs, scholars are expected to contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries.

Chinese Government Scholarship 2009

Chinese Government Scholarship scheme is established by the Ministry of
Education of China (hereinafter referred to as MOE) inaccordance with
educational exchange agreements or understandingsreached between Chinese
government and governments of other countries,organizations, education
institutions and relevant internationalorganizations to provide both
full scholarships and partialscholarships to international students and
scholars. MOE entrusts China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred
to as CSC)to handle the enrollment of international students and carry
out theroutine management of Chinese Government Scholarship Programs.

1. Accordingto the regulation stipulated by MOE, all the
undergraduate programs areinstructed in Chinese. Applicants with no
command of Chinese aregenerally required to take Chinese language
courses for 1-2 yearsbefore starting their academic programs. Applicants
who apply for studyin science, engineering, agriculture, medicine
(western medicine),economics, management and law are required to take
Chinese languagecourses for 1 year. Applicants who apply for study in
literature,history, philosophy, and medicine (traditional Chinese
medicine,Chinese herb medicine) are required to take Chinese language
coursesfor 2 years.
2. Some courses setfor general scholars, senior scholars and
postgraduate students in someuniversities can be conducted in English.

3. Duration for scholarship specified at the time of admission can
NOT be extended in principle.
APPLICATION
The applicants shall apply to Chinese diplomaticmissions or the
competent authorities in their home countries betweenJanuary and April
every year. Applicants may refer to the relevant authorities for
details.
ELIGIBILITY
* Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health.
* Education background and age limit:
* Applicantsfor undergraduate programs must have senior high school
diploma withgood academic performance and be under the age of 25.
* Applicants for master degree programs must have bachelor's
degree and be under the age of 35.
* Applicants for Doctoral degree programs must have master's
degree and be under the age of 40.
* Chinese language students must have senior high school diploma and
beunder the age of 35, will study Chinese language program in China.
* General scholar candidates must have completed at least two years
ofundergraduate studies and be under the age of 45, may study all
majorsbesides Chinese language.
* Senior scholar candidates must have master's degree or above,
or holdacademic titles of associate professor or above, and be under the
ageof 50.

DETAILS OF THE SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarships are divided into categories,

Full scholarship:

* Exempt from registration fee, tuitionfee, fee for laboratory
experiment, fee for internship, fee for basiclearning materials and
accommodation on campus;
* Living allowance;
* One-off settlement subsidy after registration;
* Fee for outpatient medical service, Comprehensive Medical
Insurance and Benefit Plan for International Students in China;
* One-off inter-city travel subsidy.

Note:

* Costs of the laboratory experiment or internship beyond the
university's arrangements should be born by the student himself.

* Feefor basic learning materials covers the necessary learning
materialsprescribed by the host institution, and other materials shall
be atself expenses.

* Monthly allowance is provided to students by the host institution
at the following rates (CNY Yuan per month):
* Undergraduates: CNY 1,400 Yuan
* Chinese language students: CNY 1,400 Yuan
* Master degree students, general scholars: CNY 1,700 Yuan
* Doctoral degree students, senior scholars: CNY 2,000 Yuan

* New students will get one-off settlement subsidy upon arrival in
China.
* CNY 1,000 Yuan for new students who will study in China up to six
months
* CNY 1,500 Yuan for new students who will study in China for one
academic year or more

* Fee for outpatient medical service refers to the outpatient expense
inthe institution's hospital or the hospitals entrusted by
theinstitution. The students should pay for a certain percentage
ofexpense in accordance with the institution's relevant regulations.

* Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for International
Students in Chinais provided by MOE for the scholarship students in
China in case ofhospitalizing for serious diseases and accidental
injuries. Theinstitutions or the entrusted medical assistance agency
provideadvancement service for insurance expenses, and claim for
compensationwith relevant payment receipts from the insurance company
according tothe stipulated insurance articles. The claim of individual
student willnot be accepted by the insurance company.

* One-off inter-city travel ticket (each for coming-in and leaving
China)

* Scholarshipstudents are supposed to choose the nearest port to
their admittinginstitutions for inter-city travel and a hard-seat train
ticket(hard-berth train ticket for overnight trip) will be provided for
newscholarship students transferring from the port of entry
uponregistration to the city where the admitting institution or
Chineselanguage training institution, preparatory education institution
islocated, for students transferring from the Chinese language
traininginstitution or the preparatory education institution to the city
wherethe university for major study is located, and for
studentstransferring from the city where the institution is located to
thenearest port for departure upon graduation. Expenses for food
duringthe trip and excess of baggage should be self-afforded.

* International travel expenses

* MOEwill provide round-trip or one-way international air ticket
toscholarship students based on the reached agreements, and entrust CSC
totake charge of booking the most direct and economical international
airticket for the students between Beijing and their capitals. If
thestudents make a detour to China or return to their home countries,
theyshall afford the extra expenses. Expenses for the excess of
baggageshould be also self-afforded.

Partial scholarship

One or some items of the full scholarship (not including one-off
settlement subsidy and one-off inter-city travel allowance).
APPLICATION MATERIALS
The materials should reach CSC by April 30th 2009 via either theChinese
diplomatic mission in the applicant's home country or theembassy of
the applicant's home country in China. Individualapplications will
not be accepted by CSC. Application materials willnot be returned
regardless of the result of application.

CSC will send the List of Accepted Students, Admission Notice and Visa
Application Form for Study In China (JW201) to the relevant dispatching
authorities by July 31, who will forward the documents to the students.
