The Sustainability Science Program at Harvard University's Center for International Development invites applications for resident fellowships in sustainability science for the University's academic year beginning in September 2010. The fellowship competition is open to advanced doctoral and post-doctoral students, and to mid-career professionals engaged in research or practice to facilitate the design,
implementation, and evaluation of effective interventions that promote sustainable development.

Due date for applications: *December 1, 2009*

Applicants should describe how their work would contribute to "sustainability science," the emerging field of use-inspired research seeking understanding of the interactions between human and environmental systems as well as the application of such knowledge to sustainability challenges relating to advancing development of agriculture, habitation, energy and materials, health and water while conserving the earth's life support systems. This year we will give some preference to applicants who address the challenges related to meeting human needs for water or food/agriculture/ land use in the context of sustainable development.

BEASISWA CHEVENING PEMERINTAH INGGRIS 2009/10 SECARA RESMI DIBUKA

Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Inggris, melalui British Council di Indonesia, membuka pendaftaran Beasiswa Chevening untuk tahun akademik Inggris 2010/11. Beasiswa ini akan menanggung semua biaya untuk satu tahun masa studi program Master (S2) di Inggris terhitung sejak September 2010.

Selama lebih dari 20 tahun, program Chevening telah menyediakan beasiswa untuk lebih dari 1.000 cendikiawan Indonesia yang telah mempelajari berbagai subyek mulai dari jurnalisme sampai lingkungan hidup di Universitas-universitas terkemuka di Inggris. Beasiswa Chevening terbuka bagi kandidat dari seluruh Nusantara.

Tahun ini skema Beasiswa Chevening mencari sekitar 20 Warga Negara Indonesia yang berprestasi. Kandidat harus memiliki prestasi S1 yang baik (IPK>=3.0), pengalaman kerja tetap minimal 2 tahun, keterampilan komunikasi yang baik dalam bahasa Inggris baik lisan maupun tulisan (IELTS 6.5), serta mampu menunjukan potensi kepemimpinan. Kandidat dari Indonesia Timur sangat dianjurkan untuk mendaftar dan kami menyambut aplikasi untuk bidang studi: Perubahan Iklim dan Kehutanan, Kontra-Terorisme dan Keamanan Internasional, Demokrasi dan Pemerintahan, Agama dan Studi Islam, Reformasi Ekonomi dan Perdagangan Internasional, Hak Asasi Manusia, Konflik, Keadilan, dan Perdamaian.

BRITISH CHEVENING AWARDS 2010/11 ARE OFFICIALLY OPEN

The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), through the British Council in Indonesia, has now opened the application window for Chevening Scholarship Awards for the 2010/11 academic year. These scholarships will provide full funding for one year Masters (S2) programmes in the UK starting in September 2010.

Over the last 20 years, the Chevening programme has provided scholarships to more than a 1000 Indonesian scholars who have studied a variety of subjects ranging from journalism to environmental studies at the UK's leading Universities.

This year the Chevening Scholarship award scheme is seeking up to 20 outstanding Indonesian candidates for this prestigious award scheme. Candidates should have an excellent first degree (GPA>=3.0), at least 2 years full-time work experience , strong communication skills in both written and spoken English (IELTS 6.5) and be able to demonstrate leadership potential. Candidates from Eastern Indonesia are particularly encouraged to apply and we are keen to receive applications to study in the fields of: Climate Change and Forestry, Counter-Terrorism and International Security, Democracy and Governance, Religion and Islamic Studies, Economic Reform and International Trade, Human Rights, Conflict, Justice and Peace-Building.

The project will be conducted at Wireless Networking and Communications Laboratory, Department of Physics and Engineering, Macquarie University, Australia and Designed Intelligence Group, Department of Industrial Design, Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands.
Supervisors for the PhD student will be Prof. Eryk Dutkiewicz from Macquarie University, Assis/Prof. Dr. Wei Chen, and Prof. dr. ir. Loe Feijs from Eindhoven University of Technology.

Interested applicants can apply for admission to either Macquarie University or Eindhoven University of Technology as the primary home institution. The two universities will then prepare a joint PhD supervision agreement for the successful applicant, enabling the applicant to enrol and carry out the research simultaneously at both institutions. The applicant will be expected to spend approximately half of the PhD study period at each university. Each university will carry out the PhD thesis examination according to its own examination processes. Upon successful completion of the research program, the applicant will receive two separate PhD degree certificates - one from each university. 2010 University of Tsukuba “Tsukuba Scholarship” for undergraduate English course students

The University of Tsukuba invites applications from international students for the 2010 University of Tsukuba “Tsukuba Scholarship” as per the guidelines outlined below. The University of Tsukuba’s “English Course Program”, which will commence in the 2010 academic year, is newly established program through which international students studying at the University of Tsukuba at the undergraduate level can earn their academic degrees by taking classes only in English.

1. Purpose
The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial support for exceptional international students who are applying to enter the University of Tsukuba’s English Course Program at the undergraduate level, thereby contributing to the cultivation of people who can make future contributions to international society.

2. Application Qualifications and Conditions
Applicants for this scholarship must fulfill the following conditions:

Nationality: Applicants whose nationality is of a country other than Japan (limited to those countries with which Japan has diplomatic relations).
Applicants who fulfill the qualifications for entering the English Course Program in any of the following undergraduate schools:

Undergraduate Program of International Social Studies, School of Social and International Studies
Interdisciplinary Course of Life and Environmental Sciences, School of Life and Environmental Sciences
Applicants who, upon entering the University of Tsukuba, do not receive nor expect to receive a scholarship or scholarships from any other scholarship-granting organizations or bodies for the purpose of studying abroad.

3. Duration of Scholarship
The duration of the scholarship will be from the first month of entering the university until the end of the applicable academic year (August 2010 to March 2011). From April 2011, students may apply for other scholarships from the University of Tsukuba or from other scholarship-granting organizations or bodies.

4. Scholarship Amount Details
Travel expenses: The scholarship will pay a uniform amount of 100,000 yen for travel expenses to Japan from abroad when entering the University of Tsukuba. However, this travel expense payment is limited to those recipients who will be newly coming to Japan from abroad for the purposes of entering the University of Tsukuba.
Monthly stipend: Scholarship recipients will receive one of the following monthly stipends based on their results in the entrance examination etc.
Class 1:100,000 yen per month
Class 2: 60,000 yen per month
Enrollment fee and first-year tuition exemptions: In addition to the above noted travel expenses and monthly stipend, scholarship recipients will receive exemptions from paying their enrollment fee (a one-time only fee of 282,000 yen) and their first-year tuition (from August 2010 to March 2011, 357,200 yen), for a total of 639,200 yen.

Class 1:5 scholarships
Class 2: 8 scholarships

7. Application Period
Applicants for this scholarship should send by mail the “2010 University of Tsukuba ‘Tsukuba Scholarship’ Application Form” (see Item 6) to the following address during the application period indicated in the application guidelines for the English Course Program. Please note that application documentation arriving later than the prescribed application period will not be accepted.

8. Selection and Notice of Decision
Scholarship recipients will be selected based on a comprehensive assessment of their application documentation, the results of their interview (in cases where interviews are conducted for university admission), and the content of their scholarship applications. Results of the scholarship selection will be sent to all applicants for university admission together with the notice of their entrance examination results.
Please note: All information that applicants for the 2010 Tsukuba Scholarship submit on the "2010 Tsukuba Scholarship Application Form" will be held in strictest confidence and be used only for the selection of scholarship recipients.
This information will NOT be used in connection with the University of Tsukuba entrance examination or admission to the applicant's prospective undergraduate school, and this information has no bearing whatsoever on the results of the entrance examination.

9. Obligations of Scholarship Recipients
Scholarship recipients are expected to fully understand the educational purpose of the English Course Program that is conducted in their affiliated undergraduate school. Furthermore, it is expected that scholarship recipients consistently display leadership skills in educational activities undertaken with other students at the University of Tsukuba as well as any other activities.

10. Special Note
The scholarship will be revoked if any of the following situations occur:

If the scholarship recipient has falsified any part of the application documentation.
If the scholarship recipient take a leave of absence, withdraws or is expelled from his/her program of study because of disciplinary measures.
If the scholarship recipient has displayed behavior in his/her studies or lifestyle that is deemed unsuitable.
