Hungary through the Balassi Institute, the Hungarian Scholarship Board Office offers scholarships for foreign students and lecturers in higher education institutions as well as research fellows who intend to gain further professional experience in Hungarian higher education institutions or research institutes. Scholarships can be applied for in two different ways:

Work plans and bilateral agreementsThe Office of the Hungarian Scholarship Board (hereinafter HSB) welcomes applications by citizens of countries (and territories) that have a valid/effective educational work plan with Hungary, or a bilateral agreement signed by the Hungarian Ministry of National Recourses and the relevant ministry of the given country (or territory). Dissemination of all information regarding the application procedure and deadlines as well as assessment and shortlisting of applications is conducted by the scholarship authority or the Ministry of Education in the relevant home country (or territory). Applications forwarded by partner scholarship offices shall have a priority. However, applications submitted directly to the HSB Office shall also be accepted in the framework of the Pool system outlined below.
Scholarship PoolIn 2005 the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Hungary established the ‘Scholarship Pool’ allowing for applications for all HSB scholarship types from the following countries/territories:
Albania, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Cyprus, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Korean Republic, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, The Netherlands, Norway, Republic of Chile, Republic of the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Romania, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States of America.

Citizens of the following countries may only apply through their national scholarship offices, on the basis of bilateral agreements: Columbia, Yemen, Mongolia, Palestine and Vietnam.

Available scholarships
The following scholarships are available in the academic year 2012-2013:

A – semester/partial studies (3-10 months)
Available for: undergraduate (BA/BSc) and graduate (MA/MSc) students (enrolled at foreign higher education institutions), especially those majoring in Hungarian Language and Literature and students participating in a single degree track university programme (such as General Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmaceutical Studies, Veterinary Studies, Architecture, Studies in Law, etc.). Before application, students are required to have completed minimum two semesters at their home institutions. For ‘Type A’ scholarship students may apply only on one occasion during their Bachelor’s studies, and once during their Master’s studies.

B – postgraduate studies, research (3-21 days or 1-10 months)
Available for: applicants holding a Master’s degree or an equivalent university degree, including PhD students who intend to do research for their dissertation and wish to stay in Hungary for less than 10 months. (However, PhD students cannot earn credits during the scholarship period at the host university.)

C/1 – full PhD programme (36 months)
Only students proficient in Hungarian can apply. The scholarship is conditional upon successful entrance exam / admission to the respective doctoral school.

C/2 – partial PhD studies (10 months)
Applicants must be enrolled in a PhD programme at an accredited higher education institution in their home country or in a foreign country (but not in Hungary).

D – postdoctoral studies, research (1-10 months)
Applicants must hold a PhD or an equivalent degree.

E – research stay (3-21 days or 1-10 months)
Available for associate professors or high-ranking academics as well as researchers holding minimum a PhD or an equivalent degree.

F – summer courses in the summer of 2012 (2-4 weeks)
Only courses published in the list of ‘Summer Courses 2012’ on the HSB website can be selected. You may select three different courses but your scholarship will allow you to participate only in one course.

CASES OF NON-ELIGIBILITY

Foreign citizens with a residence/immigration permit or in the course of applying for such a permit in Hungary
Foreign citizens with permanent residence in Hungary
Foreign citizens employed on a permanent basis as defined by the Hungarian Labour Law
Students in employment applying for part-time or correspondence study programmes
Students applying for programmes not financed by the Hungarian State
Students admitted to higher education host institutions where tuition fee is required.

GENERAL PROVISIONS
Scholarships offered by the HSB allow for studies or research in any field of arts or sciences at an accredited Hungarian higher education institution or research institute to be determined in advance.

Semester/partial and postgraduate studies as well as doctoral programmes must be carried out in higher education institutions or research institutes where no tuition fee is required.

For ’type A scholarship’ students may apply only on one occasion in the course of their Bachelor’s studies, and once during their Master’s studies. Type A (semester/partial studies) and type C1/C2 (full PhD and partial PhD studies) scholarships cannot be extended. Type B (postgraduate studies), D (postdoctoral studies, research), and E (research stay) scholarships may be extended exceptionally, only under special circumstances, on one occasion.

HSB scholarships are valid only for studies and research purposes in Hungary. Scholarship-holders must stay in Hungary during the entire period of their studies or research.

Scholarships are awarded for the summer of 2012 or the academic year 2012-2013 and must be completed by 30 June 2013 at the latest.

A list of the national scholarship authorities (‘Foreign Partners’), the list of summer university courses as well as other useful information can be found on the HSB website (www.scholarship.hu). Scholarships are awarded by the Hungarian Minister of National Resources based on the decisions of the Hungarian Scholarship Board. The list of successful applicants for scholarship types A to E is expected to be published on the HSB website by the end of June 2012 and for the summer university courses by the beginning of June 2012. Applicants will be informed of the result in an official letter posted or sent via e-mail. The HSB office shall not accept appeals against the decision.

Applications must be submitted in two ways:

1. ONLINE through the HSB website,
2. In printed version sent by post.

Note: Applications must be submitted in both ways. Our office will only accept applications sent by post as well as through the online system by the given deadline.

SYDNEY ACHIEVERS INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS (UNDERGRADUATE)
Benefits
30 scholarships of AUD$10,000 each per annum, available for a maximum of three years, (total value AUD$30,000) for any Undergraduate program offered at the University of Sydney (subject to the recipient maintaining satisfactory academic progress each year).

No living allowance is payable.

Criteria for Eligibility
Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification or an international senior secondary qualification accepted by the University with an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of at least 98* or equivalent.

Students who have already commenced tertiary studies, or students transferring with credit exemptions and/or advanced standing are not eligible. Students completing Foundation Studies Programs are also not eligible.

SYDNEY ACHIEVERS INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS (POSTGRADUATE)
Benefits
30 scholarships of AUD$10,000 each, available as a one-off award (total value AUD$10,000) for any Postgraduate Coursework program offered at the University of Sydney.

No living allowance is payable.

Criteria for Eligibility
Applicants must have completed the equivalent of an Australian Bachelor degree qualification with a minimum high distinction average as based on the Australian grading system. Students who have already commenced postgraduate studies, or students transferring from other postgraduate programs are not eligible.

Application Procedure
No separate application for a scholarship is necessary. An Application for Admission to the University of Sydney in 2012 will constitute an application for a scholarship. All applications meeting the selection and eligibility criteria will be automatically considered.

The deadline for receipt of applications and complete supporting documentation (academic and English language proficiency results) is 31 October 2011 for Semester 1, 2012, and 30 April 2012 (for Semester 2, 2012). Applications received after these deadlines will not be considered.

Selection Criteria
Selection will be based strictly on academic merit as per the University’s admission requirements. Selection will be based on actual results (academic and English language proficiency). Predicted/forecast results will not be considered.

Only applicants with firm, unconditional offers of admission will be considered.

Selection will be made by the University’s Scholarship Selection Committee, whose decision will be final. No appeals will be entertained.

Successful candidates will be informed in December 2011 (Semester 1, 2012) and June 2012 (Semester 2. 2012). Successful candidates applying through UAC will be informed in January 2012.

Conditions
Undergraduate scholarship recipients will need to maintain satisfactory academic progress, which, for the purposes of retaining the scholarship, is defined as maintaining a credit average (at least 65%) or more each year. Failure to do so may result in the scholarship being terminated.

Successful candidates:

must not be in receipt of any other tuition scholarship;
must commence study in 2012 – commencement may not be deferred;
will be required to pay for their own airfares to Sydney, living expenses, study materials, text books, any ancillary fees (if applicable) and Overseas Student Health Cover each year;
are also responsible for paying the balance of the tuition fees each year;
are required to enrol as full-time international students and must maintain their international student status on a full-time basis throughout their enrolment at the University of Sydney; and
may not be entitled to a ‘Leave of Absence’ during the duration of the scholarship, unless it is due to extenuating circumstances.

The University of Sydney reserves the right to make changes to this scholarships program without notice and at its discretion.

Eligibility for Application

Those who are selected as KGSP graduate students.
Individuals whose parents both hold foreign nationality and Korean nationals residing abroad or foreign nationals who completed the entire course of education equivalent to the elementary and secondary educations and tertiary education of Korea abroad.
Those who satisfy both 1) and 2), and have obtained Level 3 or above in the TOPIK(Test of Proficiency in Korean).

Notice
When documents were issued in a foreign country, the original should be submitted. If it is unavailable on applying, however, you are allowed to submit copied documents authorized by your Language Institute. Original documents should be submitted after announcement of admissions decision.
Application form and personal statement and study plan should be filled out in Korean or English.
Documents that are not in Korean or English must be submitted with a notarized Korean or English translation.
Admitted students should submit Apostille certificates or verified documents from Korean consulate for their school certificates (transcripts, diplomas, etc.) to the Office of International Affairs at PNU before the beginning of the school.
Applicants may be required to submit additional documents for the purpose of screening.

Application Procedure

Admission decisions are based on document screening only. The admissions committee selects successful applicants by the overall evaluation based on the submitted documents.

Tampere University of Technology (TUT) invests in doctoral education. The doctoral programme of the President of the University that covers all the discplines represented at the University has 55 positions available for doctoral students. The University is now seeking to fill the following positions in the field of architecture and different branches of engineering (see http://www.tut.fi/en/units)

The positions will be filled for a fixed-term period of three years from 1 September 2012 onwards. During this time, the researchers will undertake full-time study toward a doctoral degree. The researchers will also perform teaching duties in their own fields as part of their doctoral education.

The salary will be based both on the job demands and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the University Salary System. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of a researcher is placed on the job demand levels 1-4. In addition, employees receive performance-based salary. The researchers will serve a trial period of four months.

The successful candidates must be eligible for studies leading to a scientific or artistic postgraduate degree as set forth in the Universities Act (558/2009 37§). The requisite degree must be completed on June 2012 at the latest. Candidates do not have to hold official postgraduate student status at TUT when submitting the application.

The candidate must also meet the following requirements to be considered for the position:

- If the candidate has completed both a bachelor's and a master's degree, the total duration of one's studies toward both degrees may not exceed 12 semesters/6 academic years. If the candidate has only completed a master's degree at the University (and hold either a foreign degree or a Bachelor in Engineering degree from a Finnish university of applied sciences), the total duration of one's studies may not exceed 6 semesters/3 academic years. Semesters when the candidate was registered as absent are not counted toward the duration of studies;

- The candidate must have completed one's master's degree with the weighted grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 1-5 scale (or equivalent) and;

- The candidate's master's thesis must be graded 4 (or equivalent) or higher on a 1-5 scale.

When assessing the candidates, the University will especially consider their potential for successfully completing a doctoral degree. The assessment will be based on the candidates' previous studies and/or research experience.
