Open Society Foundations/University of Nottingham Scholarships Guidelines

The Open Society Foundations / University of Nottingham scholarships aim to provide opportunities for independent postgraduate study in the United Kingdom for students who have demonstrated both academic excellence and the potential to become leaders, decision makers, and opinion formers in their own country. Upon completion of their studies in the UK, scholars are expected to return to their home country to resume their studies or work there. Subject to satisfactory progress, the scholarships lead to the award of a master's degree.

The scholarships are available for study for:

MPA Public Health 
MPH Public Health (International Health) 
MA Environmental Management 
LLM in Human Rights Law (modules relating to Mental Disability and International Human Rights are available within these courses) 
LLM International Law 
MA Social and Global Justice 
MA Global Citizenship, Identities and Human Rights 
MA International Social Policy 
Each scholarship provides twelve months' tuition fees at the University of Nottingham, a stipend to cover living costs (for one person only), and return air travel from the scholar's home country.

Eligibility
The scholarships are open to applicants from Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Egypt, and Lebanon.

Applicants must:

be nationals of, and resident in one of the selected countries during the academic year in which they apply for the award; applicants who are temporarily out of the country (for a total period of less than three consecutive months) may be treated as being resident; 
display intellectual ability and leadership potential; 
already hold (or expect to hold by the time of taking up the award) a degree of an equivalent standard to a good UK second-class Honours degree; 
have passed an appropriate English language test by the time of taking up the award; 
not have already received or be currently receiving financial benefit from a previous HMG fully funded Scholarship; 
return to their home country at the end of their scholarship period to continue their studies / work there. 
Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously studied outside of their home country.

Employees, employees' relatives (or former employees who have left employment less than two years before) of local Open Society Foundations representative offices in the region and eligible countries, and the participating universities will not be eligible to apply for these awards.

The separate Scholarship Application Form. 
The Self-Assessment Form whereby you acknowledge your compliance with the eligibility criteria for this scholarship program. 
Deadline
The completed forms and supporting documents must be returned to your local Open Society Foundations representative office no later than February 6, 2012. One original set of the application pack and two photocopies thereof must be submitted.

Selection Process
Short-listed applicants will be invited for an interview and an English language test in their home country during April 2012. Applicants should keep their schedules free for these dates. Applicants will be informed by the local Open Society Foundations representative office whether they have been shortlisted or not. Interviews will be carried out by representatives of the Open Society Foundations. In certain cases, there may also be a panel member representing the interests of the University.

Final awards will be decided jointly by the University and the Open Society Foundations.

Please note that all successful applicants will be invited to attend a one-month preparatory academic writing summer school in August 2012. The Open Society Scholarship Programs' Pre-Academic Summer Program is designed to prepare scholarship grantees for a successful academic experience in the UK. Successful applicants will be provided with the opportunity to refine their research and writing skills through intensive courses in academic writing and social sciences. The exact date and location of the summer school will be available at a later stage in the selection process.

The Nanyang President’s Graduate Scholarship (NPGS) is a competitive and prestigious scholarship scheme designed to encourage outstanding graduates or final-year students to take their first step towards a leading research career by studying for a doctoral degree program (Phd) at NTU, one of Asia’s leading research universities. Funding will be provided for up to 4 years for NPGS awardees.
Up to 30 NPGS awards will be made available in each Academic Year. Successful candidates will be known as Nanyang President’s Graduate Scholars.
Minimum Qualification
To qualify for a NPGS award, you must have a First Class Honours degree or equivalent at Bachelor’s level and applicants should also demonstrate excellent research abilities. The PhD research will be in any topic agreed between you and your chosen NTU supervisor within the research activities of NTU. At the time of application, if you have not yet completed your undergraduate degree programme, you will need to furnish documentation from your university that you are on track to get a First Class Honours degree or equivalent. Failure to do so will disqualify you from the NPGS award, in which case you may be considered for other NTU PhD research scholarships, subject to meeting the selection criteria. Applications are invited from suitably qualified international students for scholarships to undertake the degree of Master by Research or Doctor of Philosophy at The University of Western Australia. Application for a scholarship is also an application for admission to the University.
The purpose of the IPRS and the UWA SIRF scheme is to attract top quality international postgraduate students to areas in which the University has specialised research strengths and to support Australia’s research effort. Successful applicants can expect to become members of a research team working under the direction of senior researchers and in an area which has attracted external resources.
These scholarships cover International Tuition Fees for up to four (4) years, as well as Overseas Student Health Cover.  Successful applicants may also be awarded a full living allowance scholarship.
Available in the IPRS/SIRF second application round for 2012. Applications will be assessed after the closing date. Scholarships can commence from 1 July 2012.
Eligibility
Applications for international postgraduate research scholarships at UWA are rated according to the following criteria: (a) Academic achievement; (b) English language achievement; (c) Research training achievement; and (d) Proposed research environment.
Allocation of scholarships is the outcome of a competitive ranking and selection process in which applications are scored and ranked by Schools, Faculties and the University Scholarships Committee, according to these common criteria and on the basis of evidence provided.

Master and Doctor Teaching/Research Assistant Scholarship Program.
Academic Year: 2011/2012 Term 2

In an effort to increase the capacity and quality of research,
the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Indonesia
is providing scholarship opportunities for the graduate studies
program at the masters level (S2 Magister Ilmu Komputer/MIK) and
doctoral level (S3 Doktor Ilmu Komputer/DIK)
as a research or teaching assistant.

Scholarship recipients will be exempt from having to pay tuition fees,
and will receive a living allowance of IDR 1.5 million/month (for S2/MIK
students)
to IDR 2million/month (for S3/DIK students).
For MIK students the support will be provided for up to 3 (three)
semesters,
and for DIK students the support will be provided for up to 6 (six)
semesters.
Alongside their postgraduate studies, scholarship recipients
will also be contracted to work as a Teaching Assistant
or Research Assistant with part-time workload.

HHMI's new fellowship program supports outstanding international predoctoral students studying in the United States who are ineligible for fellowships or training grants through U.S. federal agencies.

HHMI will award three-year fellowships to international students to support years three, four, and five of a Ph.D. program. Eligible biomedical-related fields include biology, chemistry, physics, math, computer science, engineering, and plant biology—as well as interdisciplinary research.

About the Fellowship
    * Participation is by invitation only.
    * Students must be in the 3rd or 4th year of a Ph.D. program in the biomedical or related sciences at a designated nominating institution to activate the fellowship.
    * Students in their 1st, 2nd, or 5th year of their Ph.D. program cannot activate the fellowship.
    * In no case will support past year 5 of the Ph.D. program be provided.

Important Dates
    * Institutional nomination deadline: December 1, 2011
    * Application deadline: February 9, 2012
    * Award notification: June 2012
