What we offer:


We offer three predoctoral grants motivated by the start of two large research projects related to security, privacy, cryptography and the economics of privacy.


The candidates' primary job will be to do research within the project. Additionally, they are expected to submit a PhD thesis based on the research carried out.


What we require:


Candidates should have a Master's degree in Computer Science. Also acceptable is a Master's degree in Economics or Social Sciences, as long as the candidate's skills in mathematics and computer science are demonstrably good. Knowledge of cryptographic protocols, game theory and/or behavioural economics will be regarded as an additional merit.

I just wanted to call your attention to the Postdoctoral Jean Monnet Fellowships of the EUI. The 2014 call is now open and the deadline for submission is 25th October. 
The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (RSCAS) offers one-year Jean Monnet Fellowships (renewable for one more year) to scholars who have obtained their doctorate more than 5 years prior to the start of the fellowship, i.e. 1 September 2015 for the academic year 2015/16. The Fellowship programme is open to post-docs, tenure track academics and those wishing to spend their sabbatical at the Robert Schuman Centre. We invite you to become part of a lively and creative academic community. The Centre offers up to 20 Fellowships a year.
 
 
 
The EUI also offers the Max Weber Postdoctoral Fellowships. The Programme is open to applicants who are within 5 years of the completion of their PhD from anywhere in the world, regardless of nationality, and is not restricted to citizens of the EU.

The Web Information Systems group at the Delft University of
Technology, Netherlands is looking for a PhD researcher, whose
research focuses on the modeling and analysis of learners and their
learning processes in the context of MOOCs (Massive Open Online
Courses).


The research to be conducted will largely be data-driven, using and
improving technologies developed within various areas of computer
science including information retrieval, data analytics and user
modeling. It will be inspired by the big data challenges that MOOCs
offer.


We invite applications from candidates who:


- Have a solid background in computer science or a related discipline;
- Have been trained in areas such as information retrieval, big data
processing, data mining, computational linguistics, web data
management, data visualization or semantic web technologies;
- Are able to rapidly prototype Web applications with a modern technology stack;
- Are interested in contributing to open-source software projects such
as the Open edX platform;
- Have a passion for online education, the ability to collaborate in
inter-disciplinary research, and the academic skills to be part of a
research team aiming to make a high impact.


Not necessary but useful are also:


- Experience with large-scale data processing technologies such as
Hadoop or Storm;
- Prior teaching experience (both online and in the traditional
classroom setting).


The contract duration is 4 years for PhD student. TU Delft offers an
attractive benefits package, including a flexible work week, free
high-speed Internet access from home, and the option of assembling a
customised compensation and benefits package (the 'IKA'). Salary and
benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for
Dutch Universities.

As part of our ongoing investment in research, the University’s Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment is pleased to announce the availability of a fully funded PhD research studentship to start in February or May 2015. We welcome applications from UK, EU and Overseas students. The Birmingham School of the Built Environment, and its associated research centres, has an international profile in a number of research areas including environmental and spatial planning, ecosystems services, construction, digitising the built environment, Building Information Modelling, sustainable systems, and environmental governance. We work closely with professional bodies and employers across the built and natural environment, and much of our research is designedly interdisciplinary. The Award: The studentship covers the cost of tuition fees at the UK/EU rate or, in exceptional circumstances, the overseas rate and a stipend. In the 2014/2015 academic year, the stipend is £13,863. The studentship is available to support three years' full-time study, subject to satisfactory progress, and there is an expectation that students will also deliver up to 6 hours of teaching/demonstrating per week.
