For candidates seeking financial assistance to cover all or part of their studies in one of the UNESCO-IHE programmes or courses, please see the list of fellowship opportunities below.

Candidates from Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) countries are always encouraged to apply for an NFP fellowship, besides any other forms of sponsorship they may be pursuing.

Note that the deadlines for submitting applications and necessary documentation may vary per fellowship or scholarship. For the latest information, please visit the relevant websites.

Prospective participants are also advised to check with their Dutch diplomatic representation (Netherlands Embassy or Consulate) whether there are any other scholarship opportunities besides those mentioned here.

Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP)

The Netherlands Fellowship Programme is intended to deepen and broaden the knowledge and professional skills of mid-career professionals to enable them to make a better contribution to the development of their organizations and their countries.

Prospective participants can obtain NFP application forms from the Dutch diplomatic representation in their home country, to whom the forms should be returned.

To be eligible for this fellowship, candidates should be able to submit proof of admission to the academic programme for which they are applying.

In addition, candidates should be working in a developing country (for the list of NFP countries visit www.nuffic.nl )in a development-related position, and be nominated by their employer, who pledges to continue payment of their salary and hold their job for them while they are studying in the Netherlands.

Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN)

The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is a group of development agencies with mandates that include the environment, health, education, architecture, culture, microfinance, rural development, disaster reduction, the promotion of private-sector enterprise and the revitalisation of historic cities.

AKDN agencies conduct their programmes without regard to faith, origin or gender.

Aga Khan as got an international scholarship programme to sponsor needy students in the countries where it operates.

The scholarships are awarded on a 50% loan and 50% grant. They are normally few and are awarded on a competitive basis.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Scholarships in Sanitary Engineering

The scholarships in Sanitary Engineering are funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation and will be awarded to students who wish to study the MSc programme in Municipal Water and Infrastructure, in one of the following specializations:

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation contribution is equivalent to USD25,000. This is approximately half of the estimated costs of study towards a Masters in Sanitary Engineering (including tuition fees as well as living expenses, travel costs, accommodation etc.). Provision of the remaining fund is the responsibility of the applicant and its exact amount depends on the choice of specialization.

Indonesian Ministry of National Education (for Indonesians only)

The Indonesian Ministry of National Education (MoNE), in particular the Directorate General of Higher Education (DIKTI), has several scholarship and grant schemes in place as part of the effort to increase the capacity of lecturers at state and private universities in Indonesia. The funding provides for degree studies abroad (MA and PhD), Post-docs, and joint research.

JOINT JAPAN WORLD BANK GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME (JJ/WBGSP)

Participants from World Bank member countries can apply for a fellowship from the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Programme (jj/wbgsp). The deadline for applications for the Master Programmes that start in October is March 31 of that same year.

OFID (The OPEC Fund for International Development) SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

The OFID Scholarship will be awarded to support an undergraduate student from any developing country, to pursue higher education in a relevant field of development, in any recognized university/college in the world.

Rotary Scholarship for Water and Sanitation Professionals
Rotary and UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education have formed a strategic partnership which aims to tackle the world’s water and sanitation crisis by increasing the number of trained professionals to devise, plan, and implement solutions in developing and emerging countries. Through this partnership, The Rotary Foundation will award 8 scholarships annually for graduate students working or living in the eligible countries, and provisionally admitted to one of the following MSc programmes (joint programs are not eligible):

The Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future program is awarding fellowships and supporting women academics in science and engineering from developing and emerging countries for their advanced graduate study at top universities abroad.

STUNED SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

The stuned Scholarship Programme is open for professionals from all over Indonesia who have completed a bachelor study, in particular educators, government officials, ngo officials and journalists. Stuned aims at a balanced gender representation (minimum 50% women) and gives preference to candidates from less developed areas in Indonesia.

The deadline for applications for a stuned Scholarship is April 1 for the Masters Programmes that start in October of the same year.

World Meteorological Organization (WMO)

It is possible to apply for a fellowship from WMO if you are academically accepted to the MSc programme in Water Science and Engineering, specialisation Hydrology and Water Resources or Hydroinformatics.
