The ASEAN Scholarships for Indonesia is tenable for 4 years leading to the award of the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Advanced (GCE A) Level (or equivalent) certificate.

The Scholarship is for studies in selected Singapore schools from Secondary Three to Pre-University Two and is renewed annually, subject to the satisfactory performance of the scholar.

Students from Indonesia are welcome to apply for the ASEAN Scholarships for Indonesia to enter Singapore schools at the Secondary Three level. Candidates who are not short-listed for the scholarships will be considered for the Merit Awards.

Eligibility
Students who meet the following criteria are invited to apply for the scholarship:

Born between 1996 to 1998
Sat for 2012 SMP 3 National Final Evaluation Examination (UAN) and have done consistently well in school

PhD fellowship vacant at SUM: Inviting proposals on development and poverty reduction

In this call, we invite innovative proposals that correspond closely with the core themes of SUM’s research area Poverty and Development in the 21st Century. We are particularly interested in research on poverty reduction in middle-income countries and the impact of development assistance on poverty in low-income countries, but the quality of the proposal and applicant will be our primary concern. The fellowship period is three years.

SUM, Centre for Development and the Environment, is a vibrant international research institution at the University of Oslo with a well-established track record of undertaking critical, independent and high quality interdisciplinary and policy-related research on the challenges and dilemmas posed by sustainable development. Research priorities are: Poverty and Development; Culture, Ethics and Sustainability; Energy and Consumption; and Global governance.

SUM was established in 1990 as a response to the World Commission on Environment and Development. The Centre is financed by core funding from the University of Oslo and externally funded projects.

Applicants should enclose a project description (max 10 pages) which shows how the project satisfies the above criteria. The project description should also include a budget and progress plan.

Further requirements

- A 2-year Masters degree, advanced professional degree or equivalent qualifications.
- The selected candidate will have their place of work at SUM, but will – as a condition of being granted the fellowship – have to be accepted as a doctoral student at one of the faculties of the University of Oslo, and follow the researcher education course at that faculty.

The candidates will be selected according to the following criteria:

  • Quality and relevance of the project proposal
  • Academic merit (degrees and grades obtained)
  • Relevant previous publications and work experience

Detailed description

ELIGIBLITY CRITERIA

To be eligible for Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS), applicants must fit the following criteria:-

  1. Not be more than 45 years of age during application.
  2. Obtained a minimum of Second Class Upper (Honours) or a CGPA of 3.5/4.0 at Bachelor Degree Level for Masters Degree applicants and for PhD candidates must possess CGPA 3.5/4.0 or very good result at Masters degree level in a similar field of intended PhD study. In addition, for post-doctoral programme, the selection will be evaluated based on the number of books produced, refereed/non refereed journals, portfolio and patent copyright. The Post-Doctoral candidate must have excellent reputation in research and possesses knowledge related to the research to be carried out.
  3. Took one of the following English Language Proficiency Test not more than two years before the date of application. The list of tests and minimum scores required:
    - IELTS Academic Test with a score of at least 6.5; or
    -TOEFL paper-based test with a score of at least 580 or computer-based test with a score of at least 230 or internet-based test with a score at least 92.
  4. In excellent health condition and certified by a Certified Doctor/Medical Professional. The cost of medical examination is to be borne by the applicants
  5. Wrote a proposal that is relevant to the needs and interests of Malaysia (research-based programme only)
  6. Has applied for and gained admission to postgraduate and post-doctoral studies in Malaysia (conditional letters of offer will be accepted at the time of application or has a confirmation of acceptance or affiliation with the universities in Malaysia).

VALUE OF SCHOLARSHIPS

Each scholarship consists of:-

  1. Air tickets from recipient's capital city to Malaysia
  2. An approved tuition fees
  3. Monthly maintenance allowance
  4. Annual grant for books and internal travel
  5. Medical / Health Insurance
  6. Installation and Termination grant

SELECTION CRITERIA

Applications will be considered according to the following selection criteria:-

  1. High-level academic achievement.
  2. The quality of the research proposal and it's potential contribution towards advancement of technology and human well being.
  3. Excellent communication, writing and reading skills in English Language.

GENERAL CONDITION OF AWARD

  1. Scholarship holder must undertake full-time studies for postgraduate and post-doctoral studies at a campus of Malaysian Universities.It is the responsibility of the scholarship holders to confirm admission to the university.
  2. Scholarship holders must not change their programme during tenure of the scholarship except with written permission from their university and the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.
  3. Scholarship holders must follow the approved programmes and abide by the university's rules, regulations and codes of conduct.
  4. Any suspension from the university will result in immediate suspension of award. Monthly allowances are not payable during suspension, including suspension due to illness.
  5. It is the responsibility of successful candidates to apply for and meet the requirements for the issuing of an appropriate entry visa including medical examination. The offer of the scholarship does not guarantee the granting of a visa.
  6. Scholarship holders must maintain satisfactory progress and good standing as stipulated by their host university and degree programme, or the scholarship will be withdrawn.
  7. The scholarships are tenable in Malaysian universities and research must be carried out in Malaysia.
  8. Scholarship holders are not allowed to take any paid employment during their tenure unless with written approval from the host university.

Women leaders with disabilities from around the world who are:

  • From Africa, Asia, Caribbean, Eurasia, Latin America, Middle East and South Pacific
  • Established leaders and/or professionals, or emerging young leaders, ages 21 and above
  • Members in an organization led by and for people with disabilities, or by and for women, with particular attention to issues of women and girls with disabilities; or civil society organization committed to the inclusion of women and girls with disabilities
  • Committed to and have the capacity for increasing leadership opportunities of women with disabilities in the community and/or country
  • Committed to and have the capacity for increasing the participation of women and girls with disabilities in international development programs

Program Activities

MIUSA’s Women’s Institute on Leadership and Disability (WILD) will bring together approximately 30 women leaders with disabilities from approximately 30 different countries, to strengthen leadership skills, create new visions and build international networks of support for inclusive international development programming.

During the three-week program, participants will take part in workshops, seminars and discussions, conduct on-site visits, and participate in team-building activities, to explore challenges and exchange strategies for increasing leadership opportunities and participation of women and girls with disabilities in international development programs.

The WILD program will include interactive workshops, site visits and practical activities on priority issues for women with disabilities, including:

  • National and International Policies and Legislation, including the UN Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Disability Policy
  • Educational rights and opportunities including specialized and inclusive schools, policy and legal rights, services and accommodations for accessibility
  • Leadership for economic empowerment, including higher education, training models, supported employment, microenterprise, private sector partnerships, career mentorship, skill-building, employment policy, and career development.
  • Health and family issues including parenting, health care, HIV/AIDS, reproductive health and violence prevention
  • Using the media
  • Coalition building
  • Organizational development and sustainability, including funding resources and strategies, and fostering partnerships with community organizations and businesses
  • Goals and action plans to promote collaborative relationships with other organizations for the inclusion of women and girls with disabilities in international development programs.
  • Inclusive international development, including exchanging strategies for inclusion with representatives from U.S-based international development organizations and/or human rights organizations
  • Cultural and team-building experiences
  • Mentorship and networking

Language

The official languages of WILD are English, Arabic, Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL). Participants must have at least conversational ability in English and/or be familiar with ASL.

  • MIUSA uses ASL sign language interpreters who are experienced and skilled at providing interpretation for individuals who use different sign languages.
  • Language and sign language interpretation will be provided during formal program activities, workshops, discussions and site visits only.

Program Cost

Accepted participants will be responsible for:

  1. $250 USD program fee. Limited scholarships may be available based on applicant’s demonstrated financial need. Applications for a scholarship will be provided upon acceptance to the WILD program.
  2. Obtaining a current, valid passport and U.S. visa, including all related costs such as travel to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in the home country

MIUSA will provide:

  1. Roundtrip airplane tickets for participants to travel from home countries to Eugene, Oregon, USA
  2. Travel health insurance during the WILD program
  3. Food, lodging, program activities and accessible public transportation during the WILD program
  4. Disability-related accommodations, including sign language interpreters, funding for personal assistants, etc.

The Post-doctoral researchers are appointed for a fixed term of 2 to 3 years. They should have a doctoral degree. The positions are ideal for recent doctoral graduates as well as those with postdoctoral experience who want to develop both their research agenda and teaching portfolio. Students from outside the European Union can study for either three or four years. If you decide to study on a four year degree, you will be able to undertake a placement. This means you will be working in a graduate level position for one year providing you with the opportunity to gain valuable commercial experience and to earn a salary. The placement year takes place in the third year of a four year degree. The Aston Business School is pleased to announce several scholarships of £1,000 each in value for each academic year of undergraduate studies and £500 for the placement year.

Scholarships are allocated on academic merit and scholarship applications will be considered in conjunction with your academic application via your completed UCAS form.

1. Scholarships to the value of £1000 are for each year of undergraduate study for a maximum of three years. The scholarship for the placement year is £500.00. The maximum total scholarship over four years is therefore £3,500.

2. The scholarship will be awarded as a reduction in academic study fees – no cash alternative is available.

3. Scholarships are only available for international students who are self-funded. UK and EU applicants and students sponsored by an organisation are not eligible.

4. To be eligible applicants must place Aston as their Firm choice institution through UCAS and Aston must have been notified of this decision by UCAS.

5. Applications must be received by post, fax or email before June 30th 2012. An email acknowledgement of receipt will be sent.

6. The Aston Business School Scholarship Panel will make their decision by 31st July 2012. Successful applicants/their representatives will be informed whether they have been successful or not by 31st July 2012 by email correspondence.

7. The decision of the Aston Business School Scholarship Panel is final. No further discussion will be entered into and there is no right of appeal.

8. The Aston Business School Scholarship Panel reserves the right to conduct a telephone interview with suitable candidates.

9. For successful applicants the award will be evaluated on an annual basis and is dependent upon students passing all modules on their first attempt. Students who repeat a year will not be eligible for a continuing scholarship. In cases where they is a dispute over the definition of this rule, the Scholarship Panel’s decision is final.
