Shari'ah Scholarship Award (SA) from The International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance

The International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) invites qualified students with excellent academic achievements and active in co-curricular activities to apply for the Shari'ah Scholarship Award (SA) to pursue their higher education at either local or overseas universities. The Shari'ah Scholarship Award is part of the Fund for Shari'ah Scholars in Islamic Finance, which was established to enhance knowledge, research, talents, and intellectual discourse in the field of Shari'ah. The Fund represents Bank Negara Malaysia's commitment to strengthen the development of the Islamic financial industry.

Eligible Study programmes:

  • Postgraduate (Master or Doctorate) in Shariah or Islamic finance studies at recognized institutions of higher learning;
  • Undergraduate studies at recognized institutions of higher learning in the field of Shari'ah with a double degree or a minor in one of the following disciplines: Islamic banking; Conventional banking; Accounting; Law; Economics; Finance; Management; or other related fields appropriate to the development of the Islamic financial industry.
  • CIFP, only for those with Shariah background.

Essential Requirements
  • The scholarship is open to citizens of all countries.
  • Applicants have to secured admission at a recognized institution of higher learning. Applicants are required to pursue either a Bachelor, CIFP , Master or Doctorate programme, as defined above, in a fulltime programme.
  • For a postgraduate application, applicants are required to have a CGPA of at least 3.5 or its equivalent.
  • For an undergraduate application, applicants are required to have a CGPA of at least 3.3 or its equivalent (for the first semester result).
  • Current students enrolled in the programmes specified above may also apply for the scholarship.
  • Applicants should not be in receipt of any other scholarship award.

  4. Offer Letter from the institution of higher learning;
  5. Certified copies of academic certificates and transcripts;
  6. An essay of not more than 100 words on ‘why the applicant should be awarded the scholarship and how he/she plans to contribute to the Islamic financial services industry’;
  7. Two (2) letters of recommendation (only for a postgraduate scholarship application). Please use provided template.
  8. Thesis proposal (only for Master and PhD application by research or coursework & research); and     Other relevant materials to support the application.

Global Undergraduate Exchange program

The Office of Academic Exchange Programs in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U. S. Department of State is pleased to announce an exchange program for undergraduate students - The 2013 Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD).

The Global UGRAD Program provides scholarships for one semester or one academic year of U.S. Study in a NON-DEGREE Program. The goals of the program are to provide a diverse group of emerging student leaders, from non-elite and underrepresented groups in Indonesia and East Asia.

All global UGRAD Program participants will be enrolled full-time in undergraduate course work chosen from the institution's (US) existing curriculum to allow students ample opportunity for ongoing interaction with U.S. Faculty and student peers, and for exposure to U.S. academic and classroom culture.

To ensure that students succeed in their new academic environments, host institutions will offer tailored instruction on topics including academic research and writing, critical thinking, time management, note taking, and studying for and taking tests. Participants will live on campus with American peers.

Students will also be provided with opportunities to participate in up to ten hours of community service per semester. Additionally, an internship component will be offered to all academic-year participants during the academic component of the program. Internships will be related to each participant's field of study and/or career plans.

Participants may be eligible for up to 4 weeks of intensive English Language instruction in the United States prior to the start of academic portion of their program.

Eligibility:

Scholarships will be granted to students who are currently enrolled in S-1 degree programs only, and have completed their first and up to the fifth semester of undergraduate study at an Indonesian university, by November 1, 2012. Please note that those who are in the sixth semester and above are not eligible to apply.
Applicants should demonstrate leadership potential through academic work, community involvement, and extracurricular activities.
Applicants must have a valid minimum ITP TOEFL score of 500 or IELTS 5.0 or IBT TOEFL score of 60/61. (TOEFL prediction or TOEFL-like score cannot be accepted).
Preference will be given to those who have had little or NO experience in the U.S. or outside of their home countries.
Applications can be for either for one semester or two semester based on nominee's availability. No applications should be submitted for both one semester and two semester programs.
Applicants are required to return to Indonesia after the completion of the program.

Sydney Water Civil Engineering Scholarship

Sydney Water delivers essential and sustainable water solutions for the benefit of the community, providing drinking water, recycled water, wastewater services and some stormwater services to more than four million people in Sydney, the Illawarra and the Blue Mountains.

The Sydney Water Civil Engineering Scholarship seeks to encourage young people to pursue a career in civil engineering and the water industry, The scholarship not only provides financial support to help UWS engineering students through their studies but the opportunity for paid work placements. These placements provice students with valuable hands-on experience and the chance to apply their theoretical training while they are learning.

Courses

Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering (Advanced), for the Civil Engineering key program only.

Eligibility

New or continuing students.

Benefits

$5000 per year.

Duration

Up to four years of full time study.

Criteria

Applicants:

  • must receive an offer or be currently enrolled to study full-time in the Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering (Advanced) at UWS, and intending to complete the Civil Engineering key program
  • should demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in the water industry, as demonstrated in the personal statement section of their scholarship application
  • should be willing to complete paid work experience with Sydney Water throughout their degree

Application and Selection Process

Applicants must provide a statement in support of their application indicating how they believe the receipt of the scholarship will assist them with their studies and in their future career. This statement should give a sufficient explanation of the applicant’s background and current circumstances to enable the University to judge their eligibility, need and merit.

Successful applicants will be selected based on their written application, academic potential, their ability to meet the criteria and, where appropriate, performance in an interview before a selection panel.

Beasiswa European Microfinance Programme

European Microfinance Programme (Master complémentaire conjoint en microfinance)

Objectives

The European Microfinance Programme - EMP is directed at students who want to obtain a specialisation in microfinance and acquire expertise by working in a developing country.

It provides students with a multidisciplinary approach to the challenges facing the microfinance sector today.

It offers the combined expertise of academics and experts working in the field. Academics from several leading European universities and practitioners from non-governmental organisations have collaborated to launch this joint programme. EMP works in close connection with the Centre for European Research in Microfinance (CERMi), which offers optional seminars, conferences, and other research activities to the EMP students (www.cermi.eu).


Content

The programme lasts one year (60 ects).

It unfolds in 3 periods :

  • Mid September to January : Introduction to financial management, microfinance from conception to management, banking and microfinance, contracting and microfinance products, public policy in microfinance, microfinance and societies, introduction to rural development.
  • February to April : Topics in microfinance; case studies in microfinance. Assessment of microfinance, development and ethics
  • May to September : Students will complete a compulsory two-to-four-month field internship preferably at microfinance institutions in developing countries. The EMP does not provide any financial support for the expenses related to that internship. However, students have the possibility to look for grants and financial support from foundations, associations, etc...Last year, the EMP was able to help finance some of the CUD-EMP students' flight tickets, but the EMP cannot make any commitment for the year 2013-2014, as it will depend on the programme's financing capacities.

The course (all in English) take place four-to-six times per week from 6 pm to 9 pm. Sometimes, courses will take place on Saturday from 9.00 am to 12:00 am. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.


Conditions of admission

  • Applicants must already hold a master Degree, equivalent to 300 ECTS (5 years), in one of the following disciplines : development cooperation, economics, agronomy, management and finance. Exceptionnally, other qualifications may be accepted.
  • Applicants must possess field experience in developing countries.
  • Mastering English is required
